PPVT sets the standard

PPVT-III is the leading measure of receptive vocabulary for standard English and a screening test of verbal ability. This individually administered, norm-referenced instrument is offered in two parallel forms— IIIA and IIIB—for reliable testing and retesting. PPVT-III features:

  • Objective and rapid scoring
  • Quick administration time of 10 to 15 minutes
  • Clear black-and-white line drawings
  • No reading or writing required of examinee
  • National norms extended to include ages 2-6 to 90+ years
  • Items reviewed by a multicultural panel
  • Numerous stimulus words: 204 items in each form
  • Items arranged in 17 sets of 12 items each for more efficient and accurate application of basal and ceiling rules
  • Easel tabbed for quick access to item sets
  • Many illustrations for better gender and ethnic balance
  • Items administered by complete sets—once you begin a set, you administer every item in that set
  • Basals and ceilings established by sets, not by consecutive items
