Bayley™-4 is the most comprehensive assessment tool for determining developmental delays in children.
It assesses infant and toddler development across five scales: Cognitive, Language, Motor, Social-Emotional, and Adaptive Behavior. Assessment of the Cognitive, Language, and Motor domains is accomplished by administering structured items to the child and engaging the caregiver to support responses where appropriate. The Social-Emotional and Adaptive Behavior scales are administered via caregiver questionnaire which allows them to share their own observations of the child’s abilities
Course Description
This fee-based online, independent study program provides detailed guidance for the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development™, Fourth Edition (Bayley-4). The program consists of six modules. Participants can earn a certificate of completion for each Bayley-4 module.
Description | Time Length |
---|---|
Module 1- General Information | |
This module provides general information about the Bayley-4. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the Bayley-4 scales, (2) summarize general testing guidelines, and (3) describe administration guidelines for the Cognitive, Language, and Motor scales. | Approximately 60 minutes |
Module 2 – Cognitive Scale | |
This module describes the Bayley-4 Cognitive Scale. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the types of tasks the Bayley-4 uses to assess cognitive development of infants and toddlers, (2) describe directions for administration of items on the Cognitive subtest, and (3) describe scoring criteria for items. | Approximately 225 minutes |
Module 3 – Language Scale | |
This module describes the Bayley-4 Language Scale. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the types of tasks the Bayley-4 uses to assess language development of infants and toddlers, (2) describe directions for administration of items on the Receptive Communication and Expressive Communication subtests, and (3) describe scoring criteria for items. | Approximately 120 minutes |
Module 4 – Motor Scale | |
This module describes the Bayley-4 Motor Scale. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the types of tasks the Bayley-4 uses to assess motor development of infants and toddlers, (2) describe directions for administration and scoring of items on the Fine Motor and Gross Motor subtests, and (3) describe scoring criteria for items. | Approximately 180 minutes |
Module 5 – Questionnaire | |
This module describes the Bayley-4 Social-Emotional and Adaptive Behavior Questionnaire. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the Bayley-4 Social-Emotional and Adaptive Behavior Questionnaire, (2) list administration guidelines for the Social-Emotional and Adaptive Behavior scales, and (3) discuss scoring of the Social-Emotional and Adaptive Behavior scales. | Approximately 60 minutes |
Module 6 – Interpretation | |
This module describes the interpretation of Bayley-4 results. After completing the module, participants will (1) describe the types of scores provided by the Bayley-4, (2) show how to use different scores to identify developmental delay and (3) share results with families. | Approximately 45 minutes |
