Social Skills Improvement System (SSIS) Rating Scales

Benefits

  • Provides a comprehensive picture of social behaviors
  • Three rating forms offer flexibility
  • Helps you quickly plan appropriate interventions

Detailed diagnostic information with direct links to intervention

The Social Skills Rating System allows you to obtain a more complete picture of social behaviors from teachers, parents, and even students themselves. Evaluate a broad range of socially validated behaviors-behaviors that affect teacher-student relationships, peer acceptance, academic performance, and more.

Use SSRS to:

  • Assess children who have problems with behavior and interpersonal skills
  • Detect the problems behind shyness, trouble initiating conversation, and difficulty making friends
  • Select behaviors for treatment and assist in planning intervention

Flexible, yet comprehensive

Select from three rating forms—teacher, parent, and student— or use all three for a comprehensive picture across school, home, and community settings.

Items on each scale are rated according to perceived frequency and importance—a feature unique to the SSRS.

Social Skills Scale measures positive social behaviors:

  • Cooperation
  • Empathy
  • Assertion
  • Self-Control
  • Responsibility

Problem Behaviors Scale measures behaviors that can interfere with the development of positive social skills. It assesses behavior in three subscales:

  • Externalizing Problems, such as aggressive acts and poor temper control
  • Internalizing Problems, such as sadness and anxiety
  • Hyperactivity, such as fidgeting and impulsive acts

Academic Competence Scale provides a quick estimate of academic functioning. Teachers rate reading and mathematics performance, general cognitive functioning, as well as motivation and parental support.

Helps plan intervention

Use the Assessment-Intervention Record (AIR) to combine the perspectives of each rater on a single form. The AIR lets you quickly focus on behaviors that matter most, helping you plan appropriate intervention. The AIR provides a graphic illustration of all the information obtained from the questionnaires with a summary of intervention plans.

Provides separate norms

The SSRS is backed by extensive research and was standardized on a national sample of over 4,000. It is also the first social skills rating scale to provide separate norms for boys and girls ages 3-18 and for elementary students with and without disabilities.

ASSIST™ makes reporting and intervention planning faster and easier

The ASSIST for SSRS goes beyond computer scoring and reporting. It provides clear behavioral objectives and suggestions for planning intervention. Its built-in flexibility offers several different reporting options. SSRS ASSIST for Individual Scoring and Reporting is available on a single CD with both Macintosh and Windows. SSRS ASSIST for Individual and Group Scanning and Reporting is offered on a Windows platform. Both versions provide:

  • Quick, detailed analysis of positive and negative social behaviors
  • Multi-rater comparisons
  • Clear, actionable suggestions for effective intervention and prevention

Evaluate your social skills program

In addition, the scannable version of SSRS ASSIST provides group reporting options. It sorts and arranges information by groups, individuals, classrooms, grades, schools, districts, gender, ethnicity, and time. This scannable version is a useful method in measuring the effectiveness of social programs and behavior modification programs as required by IDEA regulations.
